looking for a Friend?
1 divine Light in every body*and every thing*else 2=e3
we believe that knowledge is a public good; a gift, privilege and responsibility as all things of nature are.
education is what we tend to think of as the formal method of passing on information since time immemorial, but in fact, it is the culmination of our social and linguistic prowess as a species: the ability to preserve and pass on information about ourselves, the world, and the divine unseen.
the education of humans as we grow, is predicated on everything we observe around us, the values we hear articulated and see executed, their connection with our joys and our sorrows, and the knowlege and experiences that bring us joy in some way. none of this learning is in any way limited to a school building, much as the Spirit does not reside in steepled houses, but in the light of every body within.
divine teachings are all around us, if only we have the tools to fully look. As Friends we are called to seek that knowledge and facilitate the same capacity in others. we affirm that knowledge is a public good.
by orienting ourselves to education, we orient ourselves to truth and to futurity; toward the ongoing renewal of humanity, and the open and complete sharing of information toward the stewardship of our singular planet for the next seven generations of inhabitants, and every one after.
as teachers and Friends we also have discerned the undeniable attacks on the education system in the US since the mid-20th century, all in the service of restricting American students of knowledge of their own people in their own country.
abolition is the unfinished business of american Friends. how do our action contribute to holding every body every where in equal esteem? what of our practice does not contribute to this? how do we communicate among ourselves and to others about the antecedents of slavery and the inequalities we have inherited today?
education has been the ongoing work of Friends and knowledge is a public good and vehicle of spirit in many cases. How do we educate ourselves and future generations about our testimony? to what do we contribute to futurity as Friends, relatives, and ancestors?
continuing Revelation has carried many leadings. where does it now lead us in service of equality?
